During periods when the smoke filters to the surface, it will create reduced air quality, which can affect persons with respiratory issues and other sensitivities to small particulate matter. They say there have been reports of smoke being smelled because a cold front has drawn air downward.
“The air quality is good for breathing”, Katie Skipper, Northwest Clean Air Agency spokeswoman, said Tuesday morning.
The unhealthy levels were first noted at monitoring sites in northern and west-central Wisconsin and are expected to move southeastward later Tuesday. Instead, the foggy skies of late are the result of forest fire smoke, high in the atmosphere above the city for the last few days, blown eastbound from Western Canada.
