Explosion reportedly rocks second chemical plant in China
State radio said in a Weibo microblog post that a single blast occurred at a chemical plant in the city shortly before midnight, according to Reuters. On Monday, authorities said the death toll from that blast had risen to 158, with 15 people still missing.
The explosion took place just before 11:30pm local time, and there are no immediate reports of any casualties.
It is not yet known if there are any injuries or fatalities.
The latest incident marks the third blast in recent weeks in China, which have sparked concerns about the region’s growing chemical industry.
This is not the first explosion in the Shandong province in recent days.
The explosion comes only three weeks after a blast in Tianjin killed more than 145 people.
Correction: An earlier version of this article included a video reportedly from today’s blast that was from the explosion earlier this month.
