Black Lives Matter Activist Attacks Rebel Wilson for MTV Police Joke
Australian-born comedienne Rebel Wilson is under fire for using the stage at the TV Video Music Awards to joke about the growing Black Lives Matter anti-police brutality movement.
After stripping down, the 35-year-old comedian started off saying a lot of people have problems with the police that made the people speculating that she was talking about the controversial killings of black Americans at the hands of US police officers, whereas she continued telling a story about disappointing strippers. The actress finished off the skit with, “I hate this injustice. They come to your house, you think you’re getting arrested, and you just get a lap dance that is usually uninspired”, Wilson said.
She then tore the uniform off to reveal a t-shirt reading, “F-k the stripper police” and launched into a bit about strippers who perform in cop costumes.
Other netizens also took to social media to share their thoughts on Wilson’s police brutality joke at the VMAs. Rebel and her representative have yet to comment on the Twitter backlash over her police stripper skit at the VMAs. Even Montel Williams, who has clashed with McKesson, agreed with the perceived tasteless nature of the joke but thought that Wilson was mocking police.
Wilson arrived onstage wearing a cop costume Sunday night to present the prize for Best Hip Hop Video. “If the police kill someone you love, would it be a amusing joke, then?”
