Boko Haram Kills At Least 56 In Attack On North-East Village

Those 68 casualties came from Baanu village on Friday night while locals said another 11 people were shot in Karnuwa and Hambagda on Saturday and Sunday.

“This followed the rounding up of notable commanders and frontline members of the notorious group from different parts of the country“.

The militants were sentenced to death for crimes including murder and the use of explosives.

Those arrested include cell leaders, some of whom admitted to involvement in suicide attacks, he said.

“Both cities from an operational and strategic perspective for Boko Haram would make sense to be targeted, because it would be hitting at Nigeria’s political and respective economic heartland”, Cummings said.

“The issue of Boko Haram insurgency in the North East sub-region of this country is not based on either religion or ethnicity”.

The six-year-old Islamic uprising has killed an estimated 20,000 people.
