Major flaw in Samsung Galaxy Note 5 could wreck it
South Korean Electronic giant Samsung Electronics Co. responded answers to its critics on Wednesday about its new Galaxy Note 5, admitting that the device can crack if its stylus is inserted the wrong way in the storage slot. This precautionary note had not been printed on the Galaxy Note 4 manual as such caution was not required on the predecessor, since its S Pen design ensured it couldn’t be inserted from the wrong end.
The problem with Samsung’s newest phone is not the phone itself, but the stylus that comes with it, or at least the way some people have failed to use the stylus as its makers intended. As we told you yesterday, once we insert it upside down, it is much morehard to draw the stylus, with sufficient strength to make consumers think that something is very wrong.
Called the “Ultimate Test Drive”, Samsung is allowing iPhone users on AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint the opportunity to trial for 30 days a Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note5, or a Galaxy S6 edge.
So stylus lovers can breathe a little easier for now.
Users who have already gotten their own Galaxy Note 5 unit have immediately complained about the S Pen. As Android Police points out in its explainer video, there’s no resistance whatsoever to entering the pen in backwards, which leads to a myriad of scenarios where someone could accidentally insert it incorrectly.
The S-Pen sits flush with the bottom of the device, a new design choice from Samsung. Reports from users indicate that when the device’s stylus is forcibly removed, it can cause damage to either the Note 5, S-Pen or even both in some circumstances. This means, things like the radial menu which pops up when you jettison the S-Pen from the phone will not appear and you’ll be unable to take notes on the screen.
Clearly, though, the user could easily be put at fault for inserting the S Pen incorrectly.
