Samsung reveals large-screen smartphones as profits fall
The Note 5 comes with 5.7-inch display and it will come running on Android 5.1 with an Octa-core Exynos 7420 chipset at 2.1GHz (or 1.5GHz) and 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM.
Pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ kick off in the USA from Thursday, and the smartphones will be made available from August 21.
These days when everyone’s making such a big deal about screen size, it’s odd to see companies like Samsung continue to churn out flip devices.
After a first look, we must say that the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 phablet, which was the star of the Unpacked event, looks incredibly good. Users will however note that the camera has remained the same on the newer phone, still a 16MP rear camera and 5MP front like the S6 Edge.
There’s the Galaxy S6 Edge+ “phablet”, a follow-up of the Galaxy S6 Edge. It has also enhanced the “people edge” feature which allows users to quickly call or message their top contacts. Fortunately, there’s one inclusion on the Galaxy S6 Edge+ that will likely prove helpful: a full suite of Microsoft Office apps, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
The reason why the S6 Edge+ weighs less is that it does not feature the metallic S-Pen stylus that is available on the Note 5.
S6 Edge Plus will boast a 5.5-inch dual-edge display.
Indeed, the entire starting price of admission for one of the new Galaxy phones can be higher than that of Apple’s.
Many believe that moving the Samsung Galaxy Note launch date is the company’s move to jump on Apple’s introduction of the next iPhone, which is reportedly September 9. Both have no microSD card slots, and feature 3000mAh non-removable batteries. If you thought a 5.1in screen was a bit small, the Note range is no longer your only option if you’re a Samsung devotee.
The Galaxy Note 5 uses the same 16-megapixel shooter with optical image stabilization that’s in the Galaxy S6.
