Skype Messaging beta app available for Windows 10 Mobile

Thankfully, the Skype Team has confirmed that the company is now “working hard on the new Windows Phone 10 mobile to deliver a delightful Skype experience”. For those wondering what the new Skype Messaging app brings users’ way – gear up for a new user interface which bears a semblance to the Messaging app for Windows 10 Mobile.

Microsoft is letting users take the new Windows 10 Mobile version of Skype for a spin. This integration allows users to switch between over the top (OTT) and cellular communications seamlessly.

As the company is reducing the number of apps they are maintaining, like the recent announcement of shutting down several Lumia Camera related apps, combining both sides of Skype into one app makes a lot of sense.

The continued presence of such serious bugs have thrown doubt over Microsoft’s plans to release the mobile version of Windows 10 before the end of the year, with speculation that the full launch may now slip into 2016. The app was quietly released without any official confirmation of the same. When you first run the former app, it asks you if you’d like to use this app instead of the native Messaging app, so it clearly works like Hangouts does on Android. Put another way, the Messaging app in Windows 10 Mobile supports SMS and MMS. And there are handy Call and Video links, which launch Phone and Skype Video Preview, respectively. The new app will eventually span across Windows phones, tablets and PCs.

The list of features in the Universal Skype apps include integrated conversation history between Skype messaging and SMS, integrated conversation history between Skype calls and phone calls, audio calling, video calling, messaging, emoticons and sign in with Microsoft account.
