Actress Valerie Harper hospitalized in Maine
Tony nominee and Emmy victor Valerie Harper fell unconscious backstage during the evening performance of Nice Work If You Can Get It at Maine’s Ogunquit Playhouse on July 29.
The statement from York Hospital in Maine did not provide further information about her status or condition. Harper, who portrays ‘Nice Work’s Millicent Winter, only appears in Act Two of the musical, scheduled to run through August 15th.
ET had previously claimed sources revealed that the situation is “very bad” and that Harper has been feeling unwell all week. “She is resting comfortably and will remain in the hospital for observation for the time being….”
In a news release, the Ogunquit Playhouse said Harper reported she was not feeling well and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Harper had been diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2013. Given only three-to-six months to live, her diagnosis turned a corner, and neuro-oncologist Dr. Jeremy Rudnick said in September 2013 that the “Mary Tyler Moore” and “Rhoda” star “was pretty close to remission”.
‘I’m ready. I’m ready to go, ‘ Harper told People.com in a May interview. In April, she told ET that her cancer has not spread to other parts of her body, though pointed out that contrary to reports, she has not been “cured”.
