Amy, Chuck Schumer Team Up To Call For Increased Gun Control

“I don’t know how else to say it”. “It was so awful”.

The 34-year-old teamed up with her second cousin, Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer, to outline a proposal on how to deal with the issue. “I wanted to go down there (Louisiana) and do whatever I could, so this has been in the works”. Schumer is threefold: It will provide monetary incentives for states that submit all the necessary records to the national background check system and would fine those that do not.

“Having people like Amy speaking out reaches people who I could never reach”, said Senator Schumer. They will also plan to take their fight to Congress, where they will push for mental health and substance-abuse program funding.

She is now supporting Senator Schumer’s proposed legislation that would keep guns out of the hands of felons, spousal abusers and the mentally ill.

The director of the movie Trainwreck said the screening shooting “devastates me”.

Things got somber when the two discussed the July 23 shooting at a Louisiana theater during a showing of “Trainwreck“, which killed two and injured nine.

“When I heard about this news, I was completely devastated”, Schumer said.

Schumer’s comments follow an open letter to the comedian by gun violence prevention advocate Sarah Clements, who is also the daughter of a Sandy Hook shooting survivor. According to Schumer, the gunman in last month’s movie theater shooting in Lafayette could purchase a gun legally due to Georgia’s laws regarding involuntary commitment, and whether it precludes someone from purchasing a gun.

“The critics scoff and say, ‘Well, there’s no way to stop mad people from doing insane things, ‘ but they’re wrong”, she added.
