Amy Schumer, senator cousin push for tighter gun laws
Apparently, the two are second cousins.
It all started when Schumer (Amy) received an open letter from Sarah Clements, whose mother survived the Sandy Hook shooting.
Actress and comedian Amy Schumer is calling for greater gun control in the US following the fatal shooting at a screening of her film Trainwreck last month.
“She’s such a voice with so many followers, so many people who care about what she does”, Charles Schumer said. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), have joined forces in a new push for laws that crack down on gun violence.
First, according to his office, the senator has proposed new legislation that will reward states who “submit all necessary records into the background check system” and penalize states who don’t.
It appears Senator Schumer will have a new ally in his cousin, with the comedian promising these will not be her last comments on the issue. “I have a lot of press conferences”, the senator reportedly said, “but I nearly never get this much attention”.
“Unless something is done and done soon, unsafe people will continue to get their hands on guns”, Schumer told reporters.
Schumer said the legislation “deserves unanimous support…The critics scoff and say, ‘There’s no way to stop insane people from doing insane things, ‘ but they’re wrong”.
The first part includes a system where the 50 states share information about felons, spousal abusers, and adjudicated mentally ill with the federal government to include in national background checks.

Schumer’s movie “Trainwreck” was playing at a Lafayette theater on July 23 when John Russell Houser, a gunman with a decades-long history of mental health problems, killed two people and injured nine others before taking his own life.
During the press conference, the Schumers highlighted the three mass shootings that occurred this summer in Charleston, S.C.; Chattanooga, Tenn. and Lafayette, La.
