Apple mulls record breaking production for next iPhone
90 million units of the new 2015 iPhone model will be shipped this year, iDigital Times reported on Wednesday.
An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment.
AAPL CEO Tim Cook isn’t breaking out the numbers for the Apple Watch, but according to analysis from Slice Intelligence, sales are down 90% from the opening week. And, in the event that such a patent could be used to replace the standard iPhone home button, it would give Apple room to extend the usable screen space without making the phone itself massively bigger in the process.
Meanwhile, a report from Macrumors pointed out that Apple’s upcoming iPhone will likely be called “iPhone 6s” and “iPhone 6s Plus”.
“In one aspect, the methods include processing a captured image of a face of a user seeking to access a resource by conforming a subset of the captured face image to a reference model”, according to Apple’s patent application.
Personally we’re not convinced Apple will go so far as to ditch its phablet flagship though.
A newly published patent offers some insight into Apple’s plans to completely remove all charging ports from their phones. Force Touch technology was introduced on the latest Macbook and is also available on the Apple Watch. A major criticism towards the Apple Watch 2 is that timepieces are meant to last for many years, with brands such as Rolex and Cartier. In the following “tock” year, it refines the previous year’s design and sometimes makes more significant changes to the software.
It was also reported by the journal that a third assembler is also being considered by Apple, Wistron Corp from Taiwan, to help in producing the new phones to achieve the new iPhone record. Last year, Apple relied on Hon Hai and Pegatron, and consumers sometimes faced long waits for the larger display phones. The off-year “S” model typically adds features that don’t dramatically alter the overall design – such as the Siri digital voice assistant, added with the iPhone 4S, or the TouchID fingerprint reader, which debuted with the iPhone 5S.
But I’d argue that Apple’s optimistic production run has more to do with the hardware change everyone would want–a camera with more megapixels.
