Apple Music: four key facts about the music streaming service

Spotify is one of the most popular online music streaming service of the moment. But it may have wished Steve Jobs was still around to nail the user experience and the timing of the launch. Now, when I want some music, I turn on Pandora (free) or Spotify, if I want to listen to something specific I compiled (also free). The playlists are curated by music experts.

Apple today released iTunes 12.2 for OS X Yosemite users, introducing desktop support for the new Apple Music service. The Music streaming service is one of the most important update Apple has made after acquiring Beats Music since 2014. Here you’ll find everything you’re subscribed to, from Apple Music to magazines.

Prince, who memorably proclaimed “the Internet’s completely over” in 2010, is now absent from all streaming services except Jay Z’s music platform Tidal.

This is where the party is taking place, with seemingly non-stop dance music, even at 11 a.m. Tuesday, which is when I first checked it out. There are two types based on the algorithm used: consumption-based and content-based.

Users can even add songs that they are streaming to their My Music tab. It began with some confusion as no app was available in the Apple App Store.

But to make Apple Music a huge financial success, Apple most likely has to win over some people like me. There too you can choose from genres of music to stream and play or just listen to what the radio is playing.

But I, like many of you, am a woman on a limited budget. But so far the streaming and song choice seems to be quite varied.

After you’ve defined your rich life-long relationship with music with a series of taps, it’s time to pick which artists you like and love from a random assortment of floating bubble names.

Apple Music is here and the new Connect feature has the potential to be great for finding out more about your favorite artists.
