Apple Music has 11 million trial subscribers
It’s being reported today that one month after Apple unveiled Apple Music, they’ve locked in 11 million trial members. “We’re thrilled with the numbers so far,” he said, adding that two million of those signed up have opted for the family plan rather than an individual account.
Firstly, Apple Music is still in its three-month free trial period. The standard single-membership Apple Music plan is $9.99.
It’s important to remember, though, that nobody has actually spent any money on Apple Music yet. Since it only launched five weeks ago, Apple can not yet officially say how many full-on subscribers it has managed to attract, because the vast majority of trial users have yet to actually pay anything.
By comparison, rival streaming service Spotify has 20 million paid users. Cue did not say which regions are performing the best, although we highly suspect most subscribers are located in the US.
The real stat to watch is how many 90 free day trials convert to paying customers. Jimmy Iovine, another Apple employee who joined the company along with rapper and record producer Dr Dre, said he was “pleasantly shocked” by how well the service has done. “And finally, there are people out there who i think understand its value, but we still have to go out and get them”.
The number is impressive, given that Apple Music just launched to the world. The total amount paid to app developers now stands at $33 billion, up from $25 billion at the end of 2014.
