Apple OS X El Capitan Coming September 30
The iOS 9 version marks the newest iteration of Apple’s operating system for its mobile devices; while OS X El Capitan is the company’s updated operating system for Mac computers. Apple usually enables submission for apps built against the new SDK as soon as the Xcode GM is published but for unknown reasons, this milestone was delayed.
In order to download the new build of OS X El Capitan you either need to be registered as an Apple developer, or have signed up for the public beta program. Like Windows 10, El Capitan will work on existing hardware, and will run on devices that can run OS X Yosemite, Mavericks or Mountain Lion.
Which is why it’s pretty confusing that the company’s senior vice president of software engineering would oops himself into opening a classified email onstage yesterday. “El Capitan is looking great and the feedback from the beta has been fantastic”, Schiller wrote in the email.
Mission Control, which can be accessed on any Mac using four-finger upward swipe on the trackpad, now places all the open windows in the same relative location. Meanwhile, OS X El Capitan, the updated operating system for Mac desktops, is scheduled to come out at the end of this month. Improvements in performance, both under the hood and in features like Spotlight searches, are scattered throughout the OS.
While its final update dubbed as the “Golden Master” was already rolled out on Wednesday, its official release has been set one week after.
The date is visible on Apple’s El Capitan preview page. “At Yext we’re always looking towards the next phase of tech innovation, and we’re proud to offer these features ahead of the iOS 9 launch to help customers optimize their app content to reach more consumers and improve local discoverability”. However, OS X El Capitan was nowhere to be mentioned.
