Apple’s Big Update Today Has Been Delayed
Apple’s first major software update for the Apple Watch, called watchOS 2, has been delayed.
Apple is still expected to release iOS 9 to the public today.
Apparently the company ran into a last minute bug that it discovered as it was preparing for the mass rollout.
However, the rollout of iOS 9 will go ahead as planned, according to the Financial Times’ Tim Bradshaw.
Apple unveiled Apple WatchOS 2 in June during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference.
Instead of releasing the new version of watchOS on Wednesday, Apple postponed it, blaming a hard-to-squash software bug.
watchOS 2 brings a long-awaited feature that’s going to make apps load more quickly and work more smoothly – native apps. That update is available starting at 1 p.m. New York time.
I spent the last three months with the Apple Watch, giving it an unusually long trial period. Apple has not revealed what the bug was but it must have been fairly significant.
The last-minute delay of the release of the Watch operating system update will join Bendgate, Antennagate and Apple Maps as high profile problems around the release of Apple products. Because of this, all apps can now function independently on the Apple Watch. The reason watchOS 2 is so important for Apple is because it is the first update to the operating system for the Apple Watch.
Approximately 83 percent of respondents said they would recommend the Apple Watch “to a friend or colleague”, said the report.
Some of watchOS 2’s biggest improvements are developer-oriented features that hugely boost the functionality of third-party apps.
