Auburn dismisses receiver D’haquille Williams from team
By Brian Stultz The senior season of D’haquille Williams at Auburn was a mess from the start, and now he’s no longer a part of the team having been dismissed by head coach Gus Malzahn.
Williams suited up for the season opener against Louisville but has struggled to regain his form from a year ago. Malzahn says he gave Williams “the chance to prove himself”.
Jay Tate of Rivals.com reports that Williams was dismissed from the team Monday after an off-the-field incident at a local nightclub during the weekend. “I am disappointed that it did not work out”.
“He’s taken care of what he needed to take care of, but it’s a daily deal, just like everybody else on our team”, Malzahn said on August 13.
San Jose State cornerback Andre Chachere (21) blocks a pass intended for Auburn wide receiver D’haquille Williams (1) during the first half of an NCAA college football game, Saturday, October 3, 2015, in Auburn, Ala. He was also suspended during the Outback Bowl in December 2014. In five games this season, he had only 12 catches for 147 and a touchdown.
Last season when he came to the team as a JUCO transfer, he looked like one of the more promising young stars in college football, catching 45 passes for 730 yards and five touchdowns. He later deleted those tweets in the same day he posted them.
