Ben Carson Says He Would Not Be Comfortable With A Muslim President
“Carson, who has been near the top of several presidential polls, said he would consider voting for a Muslim in Congress “[depending] on who that Muslim is and what their policies are”.
Trump: Well only that there seems to be to a certain extent, and this is not all, most are fabulous, and I say that number one point, most are fabulous.
Trump, obviously uncomfortable, tried to hurry the man up, then curtly answered his question-which was about alleged Muslim terrorist training centers inside the United States.
“Oh, absolutely”, Trump responded. “No problem with that”.
Carson said the religious beliefs of a president would matter if his or her faith was inconsistent with USA values.
“This is the first time in my life that I have caused controversy by NOT saying something“, he said. I don’t think so!
Following on the heels of last week’s spate of Islamophobic headlines (see: here and here), GOP presidential hopeful Dr. Ben Carson has delivered another doozy.
“Well, you know, I don’t get into it, George”. I don’t talk about it and I don’t like talking about somebody else’s faith. “I don’t know if we have to address it right now”, he added according to a show transcript.
During a campaign stop in New Hampshire, a supporter asked Trump about President Obama’s faith.
Well, I guess it depends on what that faith is. The bigger issue is that Obama is waging a war against Christians in this country. He continued that, “We do have a problem with radical Muslims, there’s no question about that”.
Trump: – well, let me ask you this – so he said, “There’s a problem in this country and it’s Muslims”. Trump said on Twitter.
Donald Trump was recently criticized after not correcting a supporters comment on President Obama’s heritage.
Four years ago, Trump had pressed Obama to release his birth certificate – which Obama did.
“I’ve said it always, I’ve never had a problem with Muslims”.
Hillary Clinton, the leading Democratic candidate, called Trump´s handling of the incident “disturbing, and just plain wrong”, while White House spokesman Josh Earnest said it was no surprise because “the people who hold these views are part of Mr Trump´s base”. Sixteen Republicans are seeking the party’s nomination for the United States presidential election in November 2016.
