Walls are not a solution”. “The problem remains, but with more hate”. “God weeps.” The Pope “vowed” that those responsible for these crimes would face justice, adding that there was more to be done to “tackle the legacy of decades of abuse and cover-ups”.

Two times during his visit to the USA, Pope Francis praised American bishops for how they handled the sex abuse scandal and told priests he felt their pain. In his speech, Francis also said the people who were given the responsibility of taking care of these children instead violated their trust and caused them pain. I am profoundly sorry.
In June the Pope approved the creation of a tribunal to hear cases of bishops accused of covering up child abuse by pedophile priests.
In the hour-long, freewheeling talk that has become a trademark of his papacy, the pope returned to the problem of priestly abuse.
