Boehner Says No Shutdown, Rips GOP’s ‘False Prophets’
Just two days after announcing he was quitting Congress, House Speaker John Boehner yelled and cried through an interview – focusing his ire on the “false prophets” in the right-wing of the Republican Party.
Kasich, who served with Boehner in the House for 10 years, said his fellow Ohio Republican is a real reformer who got things done during his congressional tenure.
“And so, we’ve got groups here in town, members of the House and Senate here in town, who whipped people into a frenzy believing they can accomplish things that they know – they know – are never going to happen”, he said.
Obama praised the speaker as “a good man” and said he hoped Boehner would be in a position to get a lot done before he leaves.
Dickerson then brought up Cruz, who Boehner called a “jackass” at a Colorado fundraiser in August.
The experience may have been “cathartic” for Boehner, said Hanna. Ted Cruz, had slammed the speaker for failing to fight the Obama administration on conservative issues integral to the GOP. “I want to clean the barn up before the next person”.
And everyone should understand that his successor will have exactly the same challenges and responsibilities that he has had – and that is to demonstrate that Republicans can vote, stick to our conservative principles and govern at the same time.Former Sen.
Asked if passage would require Democratic votes, he responded: “I’m sure it will, but I suspect my Democratic colleagues want to keep the government open as much as I do”.
One day after welcoming Pope Francis to Congress, the most powerful Catholic in the House of Representative has announced that he is giving up his seat by the end of October.
Outgoing Speaker John Boehner spoke out on Face the Nation today about why he’s stepping down, and he pulled no punches in decrying “false prophets” on the Republican side.
“The Senate is expected to pass a continuing resolution next week”.
Boehner’s exit has renewed urgency for handling a few outstanding legislative debates, including raising the debt ceiling, funding the country’s highway system, and re-opening the Export-Import Bank, whose funding expired in July.
US House Speaker John Boehner became a casualty of the battle over funding for the women’s health organisation Planned Parenthood as he appeared to have capitulated to Republican Party conservatives over the issue by resigning from Congress on Friday.
He says, moving forward, they need to look for the best new leadership for the future and one that will be responsive to what voters want.
