Boko Haram has claimed 1600 lives since June
This was disclosed Wednesday in a statement signed by the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), 7Div Maiduguri, Col. Tukur Gusau.
Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin had well-known a “joint undertaking compel to job, damage and defeat” the soldiers, Buhari said.
He also explained that this latest move by the Boko Haram sect was aimed at taking revenge on innocent citizens and livestock following combined efforts from the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force to end their reign of terror in the North East.
Speaking on his predecessor, President Buhari said there were some policies of the administration that were favouring some few people at the detriment of a large number of people.
“The fuel depot was used to stockpile petroleum, oil and lubricants by Boko Haram terrorists and their equally heartless collaborators for onward movement to the terrorists camps in Sambisa forest”.
“Other items abandoned by the terrorists were three bicycles, provisions including Magi seasoning, potash, peanut and onions”, Usman said.
Boko Haram, which controls parts of northeastern Nigeria, started its militancy against the government in 2009. However, Buhari’s spokesman released a statement in reaction to the criticism, saying the reports that the Nigerian leader missed the meeting were “erroneous” and Buhari was fully invested in the issues of those affected by Boko Haram’s six-year insurgency in northern Nigeria.
“Boko Haram members penciled for reintegration are those [who were] forcefully conscripted into the group and those who have already surrendered or who are willing to renounce their membership in the group”, the statement read.
“The operation of the security forces in the contested area is created to dismantle technical preeminence and capabilities of the terrorist groups”.
Governors of states of Jigawa and Adamawa were said to be represented at the inauguration ceremony.
