Bush hit from both sides on birthright citizenship
Trump mocked the public amicable exchanges between Bush and Rubio, more recently at the first GOP debate a few weeks ago in Cleveland. The “anchor baby” term – a reference to U.S.-born children of undocumented immigrants – is considered offensive by many.
In the past, politicians who took aim at birthright citizenship typically targeted immigrants from Latin America. In response to a query at the town hall, Bush showed his frustration.
“It’s going to be really hard for me to get lectured by anybody about the politics of immigration“, Bush said.
Pro-Hillary Clinton Democratic groups American Bridge and Correct the Record were quick to pounce on his word choice of “Asian people“, and sought to paint Bush as insensitive at a time when Republicans are trying to broaden its base and become more inclusive.

Bush said border security extends beyond the land border with Mexico, noting that at least 40 percent of the people in the U.S. illegally came with valid visas.
Asian Pacific American Advocates national president Michael Kwan condemned Bush’s comments in a statement.

Still, he can take tougher stances on immigration as well.
The trouble for Bush began a week ago when he used the term unprompted in the final minutes of a radio interview with host Bill Bennett, the former Reagan-era education secretary.
Former President George W. Bush will headline a fundraising luncheon for Jeb’s campaign in New York City on September 10, The Washington Post reported.
Donald Trump disagrees. His immigration platform calls for the end of birthright citizenship, saying it “remains the biggest magnet” for illegal immigration.
