Bush slams Trump; defends use of `anchor babies’ term
But Bush later challenged reporters inquiring about the incident to come up with a suitable alternative. “No, do you have a better term? You give me a better term and I’ll use it”, he snapped at a reporter. Bush was expected to discuss foreign policy, including his plan for combating Islamic militants. “I don’t see how he’s electable”, Trump taunted, as Bush spoke just miles away at his own New Hampshire town hall.
When the reporter offered child of undocumented immigrant, Trump replied, “I’ll use the word anchor babies“.

Bush doubled-down on this notion, supporting the use of the term and by default, his Republican rival. According to Greg Chen, director of the American Lawyers Association, she writes, “The only thing that a so-called anchor baby can do to assist either of their undocumented parents involves such a long game that it’s not a practical immigration strategy”. Bush, who has raised more money the other GOP candidates and was seen as the likely front-runner for the nomination before Trump’s unlikely rise in the polls, has sought to portray himself as more moderate than candidates like Trump while also trying to appeal to his party’s staunchly conservative base.
Republican Senator Marco Rubio, who is also running for president, was asked about the term in a CNBC interview on Thursday.
