Clinton: I did not send or receive classified emails on private account
– Reuters pic, July 26, 2015.Hillary Clinton will testify publicly on October 22 before a congressional panel probing the deadly 2012 attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya, her presidential campaign said on Saturday.
The inspector general for the intelligence community had informed US Congress that some material emailed from the former secretary of state’s private server contained classified information, but it was not identified that way.
The official said the referral by the investigators did not relate to possible criminal wrongdoing, despite saying earlier Friday that it did. The information remains classified to this day, the statement said. While sitting for an interview at the Watermark Silicon Valley Conference for Women in Santa Clara, California, Hillary Clinton said that she uses at least two cell phones – an iPhone and a Blackberry.
Mrs. Clinton claimed she used the one email account because it was more convenient, a claim that didn’t hold up to scrutiny.
At the time, use of a government email address wasn’t mandatory, according to the State Department, but it did mean that Clinton’s emails could have escaped requests under the Freedom of Information Act. She took responsibility for the department’s missteps and said it was attempting to strengthen security at diplomatic posts worldwide.

The attack resulted in the deaths of four Americans including the Ambassador of the consulate.
However, seeking to steer clear of any controversy, Hillary said that she did not “send nor receive anything that was classified at the time”. Clinton’s lawyers initially agreed to allow the 2016 presidential candidate to testify before the committee back in May. The State Department is reviewing 55,000 pages of emails with the goal of releasing all of them by January 29. But a federal judge this month chastised the department for moving too slowly in providing The Associated Press with thousands of emails submitted through the Freedom of Information Act. She is now considered to be the party’s front runner in this race.
Because it was not identified, it is unclear whether Clinton realized she was potentially compromising classified information.
Clinton used a private email server instead of a government account. “That is a discussion amongst various agencies within the government”.
“They can fight over it or argue over it. That’s up to them”.
