Clinton Makes Addressing Climate Change a Major Platform – Focusing on Solar
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton vowed broad increases in U.S. solar and other renewable generation but declined to say where she stands on the Keystone XL pipeline in a few of her most expansive energy remarks yet while on the campaign trail.
A Virginia man was charged Monday with stabbing a man to death and seriously wounding the man’s wife during a service at a Maryland church and retreat center on Sunday night.
Sanders’ plan, he said, “would look like a tax on carbon; a massive investment in solar, wind, geothermal; it would be making sure that every home and building in this country is properly winterized; it would be putting substantial money into rail, both passenger and cargo, so we can move towards breaking our dependency on automobiles”.
Clinton’s aides argue her work at the State Department is a major asset for her candidacy, even if it prevents her from taking positions on certain topics – such as Keystone and the Pacific trade deal – that are closely watched by the Democratic base. “She talked a lot about how important brain development is in children especially under age three and that we need to invest in our future and our economy and children depend on it”, said event attendee, Leslie Danksburke.
“It’s hard to believe there are people running for president who refuse to accept the settled science of climate change“, Clinton said in a video unveiling her “vision for renewable power.” “On day one as president, I will set two ambitious national goals that will test our capacities”.
Tom Steyer, the head of NextGen Climate, offered vague but warm encouragement on Clinton’s ideas in a statement issued by the Clinton campaign: “Today, Hillary Clinton emerged as a strong leader in solving the climate crisis and ensuring our country’s economic security”.
While tonight’s fundraiser was not a corporate event, it was hosted by the company’s CEO, CFO, and their spouses.
The two goals, reported by Business Insider, are the first elements of what Clinton said will be a comprehensive agenda against climate change. “That said, the growth rate is more or less in line with what we’re seeing now”.
Among Clinton’s 2016 opponents, Vermont Sen.
The former secretary of state has been under pressure from Democratic presidential rival Senator Bernie Sanders, a self-described socialist who has called for swift action on climate change, and environmental activists anxious to see her spell out details of a climate plan.
What do you think about Hillary Clinton’s platform for presidency?
In her own speech on the issue last week, Clinton proposed a sliding scale capital gains tax rate that would encourage investors to hold equities for longer, rather than turning them over for quick profit.
The plan’s estimated cost is about $60 billion over 10 years, and would be paid for by eliminating tax breaks for the oil and gas industry, Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon said.
With that in mind, the power generated by Clinton’s solar panels would be 380,940 gWh per year.
