Colorado students to see Pope Francis in person
Birmingham area Catholics are commemorating the Pope’s upcoming visit to Washington D.C., New York, and Philadelphia in a number of ways.
“It’s the first time he’ll be speaking on American soil”.
A ten day, six city tour will take Pope Francis on a trip covering more than 11,000 miles, and one of those stops is the United States.
“I am very happy that Pope Francis will be visiting the United States“.
The pope’s humanity is what has caused him to be admired and even adored by non-Catholics.
While Cahill is the only member of St. Eugene’s going to see the pope, as far as he knows, Immaculate Conception Church in Hendersonville has a busload of parishioners traveling to Philadelphia to see the pontiff later in the week. We will have morning prayer, then he’ll go visit children, I think.
Interestingly enough, they’ll visit the Pope again soon as their church is taking a trip to Poland, where they hope to see him preside again.
Many call it the chance of a lifetime.
Francis, the first from South America to be elevated to pope, has been a transformational leader for the Catholic Church.
Pope Francis has been vocal about several social issues.
He said that message is getting the attention of Catholics of all ages.
“I think some of the folks from here are going to be kind of surprised to see how all the different cultures, how all the different people live and stuff”, said Ken Witezell.
“I think (the pope’s) overall message seems to be about looking for the avenues where we can come together”.
“When Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead, he still had the wounds in his side and in his hands and his feet”.
Adding to the school’s offerings on the pope’s visit, Sister Clare Fitzgerald, a prominent Catholic speaker, talked at Cretin-Derham Hall Monday night about the mission of Catholic education in the age of Pope Francis. He’s a benevolent spirit on this Earth and I wish him well. She says the experience of meeting the pope at Revolution Square during mass on Sunday is one she will remember for the rest of her life.
After meeting with President Barack Obama today, Francis will deliver a speech to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday.
