Congress Discuss Planned Parenthood
The San Diego Congressional delegation voted along party lines Friday to end federal funding for Planned Parenthood.
NOTE: H.R. 3134 defunds Planned Parenthood clinics for one year. This action is of course particularly important in light of the recent investigative footage that revealed all manner of horrific activity at Planned Parenthood facilities – including the harvesting and sale of baby body parts. “Their latest cynical ploy is to eliminate federal funding for Planned Parenthood health centers for one year, so that they can launch more investigations based on false accusations and flat-out lies”.
Democrats said Franks’ measure was unneeded because clinicians allowing born-alive babies to die would face murder charges.
The House also voted 248-177 to pass a bill imposing penalties of up to five years in prison plus fines on doctors who don’t try to save infants born alive during abortions.
“It’s no wonder that solid majorities of the public disapprove of the job Congress is doing and overwhelmingly support Planned Parenthood“. Which means I guess we’re going to have to hope that no one shows these people any of those YouTube videos about how Michael Jackson was killed by the Illuminati.
The organization has nearly 700 clinics in the U.S. Democrats in the Senate would be likely to block such a bill and President Obama has promised a veto any funding measures that don’t provide money to Planned Parenthood.
Last month, Gov. Asa Hutchinson ordered the cancellation of Arkansas’ contract with Planned Parenthood of the Heartland in response to the undercover videos.
In a 241-187 vote, the House of Representatives has passed a bill that would defund Planned Parenthood.
But hardcore conservatives have pledged to oppose any spending bill that does not defund Planned Parenthood.
But the videos have enflamed the already contentious debate over abortion and Planned Parenthood and are threatening to hold up a bill to fund the government before it runs out of money on October . 1.
Pat Murphy, who challenged Blum in the 2014 general election and is once again vying to be the Democrats’ nominee in Iowa’s 1st District, sent an email to supporters just after Friday’s vote titled “Rod Blum should be ashamed of himself”. Practically none of the federal money can be used for abortions. President Barack Obama said he would veto them.
It is unlikely the bill will pass the Senate.
Republican leaders lobbied for this decision as it would affirm their stance against abortion as well as influence a government shutdown. “A humane society makes it clear in our laws and in our culture that a child born alive deserves protection”. They’ve also refueled Congress’ always-emotional clashes on the subject, with Friday’s debate featuring a poster-sized photo of a scarred, aborted fetus and accusations from each side that the other was simply trying to drum up campaign donations.
