Detroit signs Nyquist to four-year, $19 million extension
The Detroit Red Wings avoided a potential arbitration hearing with Gustav Nyquist and agreed to terms with him on a four-year, $19 million contract on Friday.
Per War On Ice, the deal carries a $4.75 million average annual cap hit, and Nyquist receives a full no-trade clause in the third and fourth years of the deal.
The terms of the contract for Nyquist, who had a career-high 54 points with the Red Wings last season, were not released. The season before he played 57 games with Detroit and scored 28 goals and 20 assists.
The Detroit Red Wings have secured the services of one of their most dynamic scorers. Holland pointed to similar sparse output for Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg when they were in their mid-20s, noting it takes even skilled players a while to figure out how to be a force in the playoffs. Since making his debut during the 2011-12 season, Nyquist has 115 points (59 goals, 56 assists) in 179 games, all with the Red Wings.
Nyquist also led the Red Wings with eight shootout goals last season.
