Donald Trump presidential campaign: ‘China has been disrespecting Obama for years’
Ignoring warning signs his campaign may be running into trouble, the brash celebrity billionaire held a wide-ranging news conference before a speech in Michigan and lashed out on several subjects but declined to provide policy details. He’s just not ready yet.
Gerald Steib, Wall Street Journal “Capital Journal” columnist, captured the conventional wisdom of the pundit class today, writing that Trump’s antics benefit his “rivals” such as ex-Florida Governor Jeb Bush.
“There’s no energy there, no energy”. “We have heads being chopped off because there are Christians in the Middle East….” He looks weird. He talks with a kind of northeastern brashness that people elsewhere in the country used to find offensive and more than a little threatening, like you’re dealing with a mobster.
It was Trumps first appearance as a presidential candidate in Michigan, where he decried Chinas decision to devalue its currency and Ford Motor Co.s planned $2.5 billion investment in Mexico. He told reporters in Birch Run, north of Flint, that he would announce policy specifics over the next two weeks, but cautioned: “You really have to be flexible on jobs and everything else”. Trump’s refusal to promise support for the eventual Republican nominee and the Christie-Paul confronation were also frequently mentioned. His ability to take on Iran (and get things done) seemed to exceed that of the government itself. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, at 10 percent and retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson at 9 percent. Sen. I offer the a few casual thoughts in the spirit of inquiry.
“In the absence of a debate, Trump’s lead widens because he swallows up the political oxygen, but when that oxygen is spread out more evenly in a debate, it breathes life into the other candidates, and the race gets closer”, said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center in Boston.
“We’re going to keep the door open, we’re going to see what happens”, he said on Fox.
But the feud between Trump and Fox News, one of the most powerful voices in Republican and conservative circles, appeared to thaw Monday after the networks chairman, Roger Ailes, reached out to Trump directly to clear the air.
“The people we are dealing with, it is what it is”, he said.
Before a record TV audience estimated at 24 million, Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly called out Trump for “calling women you don’t like fat pigs, slobs, dogs and disgusting animals…”
In the interview with Hannity for Tuesday night, Trump said he was prepared to spend $345 million or more to fund his establishment-bucking campaign as long as he is doing well in the polls. Trump continued, “Win, lose, or draw”.
Imagine taking a trip with Donald Trump or a holiday with Hillary Clinton.
Trump insisted that he would be the best president for women, touting the number of women executives in his company’s top positions – women he said he pays as much as men in similar posts. He argued that, in business, flexibility is key. “I did not want to go in, but now it’s totally messed up … we have go in with force and take the oil”. The doctors said they had to quickly dilate her cervix and perform an abortion to save her. “I fought it”, she says. Thats the best way to win.
“I think the Trump style of speaking directly and without regard to political correctness has resonated with a segment of the conservative electorate that increasingly distrusts professional politicians and their inability to reverse a sense in the public that America is no longer on the right track”, Mahaffee said.
