The billionaire presidential candidate returned to Fox News Tuesday morning with a policy-centered interview on Fox & Friends that steered clear of his weekend-long fight with the network over tough questions he received during last week’s presidential debate.
“While what Donald Trump said about Megyn Kelly is outrageous, what the rest of the Republicans are saying about all women is also outrageous”, Clinton told reporters in New Hampshire.
“It’s not easy with 10 people debating”, said Jeb Bush, referring to the candidates leading in the pollswho were invited to the main debate, seven more participated in a pre-debate forum.
In a round of TV interviews on Tuesday, Mr Trump revealed that Fox News boss Roger Ailes phoned him to defuse the tension. “We discussed our concerns, and I again expressed my confidence in Megyn Kelly“.
“I want to run as a Republican, but I want to keep that door open in case I don’t get treated fairly”, Trump said.
Another “Apprentice” alum, Katrina Campins, also defending Trump, saying, “I don’t think he has a problem with women”.
Ailes continued: “I assured him that we will continue to cover this campaign with fairness & balance”. “So I’ll continue doing my job without fear or favor”.
Trump said he’s still ironing out the particulars.
“Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president, and how will you answer the charge from Hillary Clinton, who is likely to be the Democratic nominee, that you are part of the war on women?” she asked. He described Ms Kelly as a “brilliant journalist”, whom he fully supported.
Kelly acknowledged that Trump was “upset” with her questioning at last Thursday’s GOP debate.
Kelly had questioned the GOP candidate regarding derogatory remarks he has made in the past about women, calling them “disgusting animals” and “fat pigs”. “This is a tough business, and it’s time now to move forward”. On Sunday afternoon he tweeted: “It amazes me that other networks seem to treat me so much better than Fox News“.
