Elton John, Dr. Dre to Host Apple Beats 1 Radio Shows
Beats 1 is part of the new Apple Music service the company unveiled earlier this month at Worldwide Developer Conference.
Pop superstar Taylor Swift said Thursday she would stream her latest album only on Apple, capping an 180-degree about-turn after she threatened a boycott.
Apple Music, the much-anticipated new streaming service from the company is set to launch on June 30. Swift’s beef was apparently that streaming services in general devalued the work of the artists that created it, but fans are now left wondering what differentiates Apple Music from Spotify in her eyes.
Despite many in the indie sector operating on tight margins, illustrated by their concern over Apple’s original proposal of a royalty free summer as it moves into streams, the majority of Merlin member labels reported overall growth in the previous year, with only 16% saying revenues were down. A similar embarrassing situation might come up with Apple music as well because according to the New York Times report, they will be paying $0.2 cents for individual song composers as well. “We don’t ask you for free iPhones”, she wrote.
However she has supported Apple’s drive to supplant advertising-based free streaming services with one funded by user subscriptions.
The 25-year-old posted a string of messages on Twitter explaining her decision and insisting that it is not “some exclusive deal like you’ve seen Apple do with other artists”.
“After the events of this week, I’ve made a decision to put 1989 on Apple Music… and happily so”, she proclaimed. So far, the antitrust investigations into Apple Music have not produced evidence of collusion.

I say this with love, reverence, and admiration for everything else Apple has done.
May speculate that with Apple Music debuting in a matter of day, getting the one world’s highest paid musician to fight and make up with is probably the best strategy.
