Erdoğan calls Turkish parliament to deprive Kurdish deputies of mandates
Davutoglu, a member of the ruling AKP, demanded that the HDP “clarify its stance towards the PKK”, an armed group considered a terrorist organisation by Turkey.
ANKARA, July 29 (Sputnik) – The parties of the Turkish-Kurdish conflict need to agree on a ceasefire, leader of Turkey’s pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Selahattin Demirtas said Wednesday. Suggesting that Ankara’s policies toward the PKK have impeded resolution of the Kurdish issue in Turkey.
In response, Turkey’s air force has carried out raids against PKK bases in southern Turkey and northern Iraq.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claimed Tuesday that the solution process had been “abused” and “seriously damaged”.
Turkey has also been hit by attacks by ISIS-linked militants, including one that left 32 people dead in the border town of Suruc last week.
However, observers now say snap elections could be called, with politicians apparently unable to put together a coalition.
“Even if we know the high price of a coalition government, we can take on this responsibility for the good of the country”, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, head of the secular Republican People’s Party (CHP), told the Hurriyet daily.
Abdülhamit Gül, the AKP’s deputy chairman, tweeted the party’s intention to issue the complaint on Monday, claiming that HDP officials were celebrating the outlawed PKK group’s actions rather than condemning them.
