“Everybody knows the rules – the extra inning rules – and they’re kind of insane”, said pitcher Jeff Francis, of Delta, B.C. “We could tell the fans were surprised by that”.
The United States has the second largest team – 100 fewer than Canada – followed by Brazil with 590 athletes and Mexico with 500.
The Pan Am Games offer some events you won’t see in the Olympics, and several are up in the second week: women’s baseball, 10-pin bowling and racquetball.
After Team US led 3-0 early, the game remained tied at four at the conclusion of regulation.
Rene Tosoni hit a three-run shot for Canada and Jordan Lennerton had a sacrifice fly for his team-leading ninth run batted in of the tournament.
The Canadian men try to keep their Pan Am Games alive Monday night when they play Peru, needing to win in order to have a chance to advance to the knockout round on goal margin. It is the first time women’s baseball has been contested at an worldwide sporting event.
