Fazio close to West Brom switch
It is unclear how much they will recoup by selling him to West Brom.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Federico Fazio has arrived for a medical at West Bromwich Albion, according to Sky Sports.
The Tottenham defender is currently undergoing tests at the club’s training ground and will talk terms with the Baggies.
Newspaper reports have suggested the defender could be used as a makeweight in a deal to take striker Saido Berahino to White Hart Lane, but Baggies boss Tony Pulis – speaking at Friday’s press conference – insists it is not part of any other agreement.
Spurs will be hopeful that his move helps to grease the wheels for Saido Berahino’s switch and it’s hard to imagine any deal for Fazio being discussed without the young forward having come up.
“He wants to show that he cannot only compete but do well in the Premier League and I think that ambition, drive and desire is what you need in your club”.
He added: “That deal has nothing to do with Saido’s position at the football club”.
“We want Saido to stay at this football club”.
“We’d like Saido to stay, we think it would be in his interests to stay football-wise and we’ll do our damndest to try and keep him here”.
Fazio signed a four-year contract at Tottenham last summer after joining from Sevilla, where he won the Europa League in 2014.
The Argentinian made 31 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions last season and was given a straight red card on his Premier League debut at Manchester City.
And the Welshman looks set to trigger a frantic few days by completing the signing of Argentine centre-back Fazio before the weekend in a move that will raise fresh doubts about Joleon Lescott’s future.
