The protest began near Chicago police headquarters Tuesday.
The crowd marched, chanted and at times confronted police. Three officers were injured.
On Monday night, no smoke or tear gas was used and no police or civilians reported injuries. Some demonstrators threw water bottles and other debris at officers.

Ferguson resident Hershel Myers Jr., 46, criticized the police response as aggressive and unnecessary. “We can’t even stand on this side of the street without the weapons being pointed at us”, Chandler said.
The shooting early Monday left the St. Louis suburb on edge as protesters planned more events.
“The recent acts of violence will not be tolerated in a community that has worked so tirelessly over the last year to rebuild and become stronger”, St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger said in a statement. It simply marked a change in tactic, he said.

Surveillance video has been released showing suspect Tyrone Harris, who was critically wounded after being shot by police, minutes before he fired a gun at plainclothes officers, police said.
St Louis County Police said: “The video shows Harris grabbing a handgun out of his waistband once shots are fired during the protest in the West Florissant corridor”.
Before police released the video, Tyrone Harris Sr. said, “He was running for his… life because someone was shooting at him”. Despite occasional traffic blocks and confrontations with the police, there was minimal conflict surrounding locals’ commemoration of Michael Brown’s death.

When they didn’t comply, officers advanced and took several people into custody.
Monday’s police presence was far more conspicuous compared with Sunday night. Asked for a further update on Tuesday, a spokesman for the hospital referred inquiries to St Louis county police, where Officer Shawn McGuire said Harris remained critical. Stenger expressed a similar view.
“The street has been the focus of demonstrations marking the anniversary of the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown”.
