Former Burnley captain Shackell thrilled to make Derby return
Derby County have confirmed the signing of Burnley captain Jason Shackell for an undisclosed fee on a three year contract.
The 31-year-old was in the east Midlands on Thursday afternoon to have a medical after agreeing personal terms with the Rams.
“You can safeguard to a degree but if a player decides “That’s it, I’m not willing to work how you work, don’t want to be part of it”, which Jason Shackell made a decision on, well then they’re no use to you”, Dyche told the Lancashire Telegraph.
“The club has made massive progress in recent times and after hearing the vision and ambition of Mel Morris, Sam Rush and Paul Clement, I couldn’t wait to sign”.
Throughout the 2014/15 season, fans who bet with Football League Title Sponsor Sky Bet earned Transfer Fund tokens for every pound they spent, putting them in with a chance of winning the £250,000 Transfer Fund for their club.
“I know just how big a club Derby is following my previous spell here”.
Clement, appointed last month after leaving Real Madrid, added: “We’re thrilled Jason has become our latest acquisition”.
The 32 year-old defender had was an ever present for the Clarets last season but couldn’t prevent their relegation from the Premier League leading to the Rams making a move for their former player.
Burnley are believed to have recouped in excess of £3million for a central defender who was key in their promotion to the Premier League.
“I know the Derby County fans will know all about his qualities already following his previous spell at the club”.
We feel we had to stand as strong, as we have done, to make sure we got the required amount of money for him.
“We’re delighted that he has chosen to join us”.
