Giroud: I would welcome Arsenal striker addition
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry stated that he had doubts over Giroud’s ability to fire the club to Premier League glory after a 0-0 draw against champions Chelsea last term. “I try to focus on my pre-season preparation”.
The 28-year-old striker didn’t take the criticism kindly and retaliated through the media.
Walcott, who joined the north London club in 2006 when he was 16-years-old, believes Arsene Wenger’s side could be on the verge of something special after his goal helped them secure back-to-back FA Cup triumphs in May.
Giroud, now Arsenal’s first-choice forward, said he would welcome the arrival of a new leading striker. He said: “My agent has talked to the club, I enjoy playing for this club so I am just letting them crack on with things and I’ll continue playing football”.
Walcott was speaking after he scored the opening goal in Arsenal’s impressive 3-1 win over Everton to clinch the Barclays Asia Trophy in Singapore on Saturday. We’ve got to keep this group of players together.
‘If there is another striker it will be nice for all the team because competition is good for everyone, ‘ Giroud told reporters. I am happy with the squad I have and, if I find an exceptional player who will strengthen the squad, I will do it.
Wenger said: “I don’t know where that story comes from, but that is not happening at the moment”.
“It depends what’s on the market”. We don’t rule it out and [also] don’t guarantee we sign.
“[The title] is our target and we feel we have a chance in a very competitive league”.
“We finished third past year and we won the FA Cup, so that shows that we are not far away”.
“””(Former Arsenal players) Marc Overmars and Dennis Bergkamp work there, that’s why we have a great relationship with them, and hopefully he (Sanogo) can have a great season”.
