Harper promises more money for port facilities in Montreal, Quebec City
Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is promising to restore a system of lifetime pensions for veterans in an attempt to win support from angry ex-soldiers, usually drawn to the Conservatives.
Federal leaders continue to hit the campaign trail and today’s sharp drop in North American stock markets is sparking fresh debate about who will best manage Canada’s finances.
NDP Leader Tom Mulcair has said the prime minister’s Monday phone call to Stephen Poloz was a sign that Harper’s economic plan isn’t working.
“You do not – as any financial planner will tell you, whether it’s from the prime minister on down – you do not run around and change your plans based on daily market news”, he said.
“While the challenges today are different, very different than a generation ago, they are no less severe”, Martin said.
PM Stephen Harper will likely try to deflect economy talk with more public safety policy when he speaks at the global Plaza Hotel in Mississauga.
Mulcair takes his show to BC and a trip through Vancouver Island communities. “They would finance that through deficits and through big tax increases, including tax increases on workers and on job-creating businesses”.
“This country will not go into recession next year and will lead the G7 countries”.
