Highlights: Sears and McGoldrick find the net as Ipswich beat Burnley
In a poor opening half an hour, George Boyd fired over from the edge of the area and Chambers had a shot deflected just wide after the Ipswich skipper combined well with Arsenal loanee Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
It was Ipswich who took the points, however, after tapping in a cross from new man Brett Pitman after signing a new contract at Ipswich this week.
Quick, tricky and classy on the ball, Maitland-Niles has also worked his socks off and been both unselfish and brave out of possession. “Thanks to Arsene (Wenger) for lending him to us because he’s done us a right turn”.
The Ipswich boss feels Maitland-Niles is a wonderful talent and is confident that the midfielder has the ability to become a regular feature in the Arsenal first team in the near future.
“Overall it felt a bit like welcome back to the Championship!”
‘He’s such a lovely kid and all, he’s fitted in perfectly. “We’re blessed that we’ve got him actually”. It was a great goal from Freddie (Sears) though.
Sears has scored 11 goals in just 19 starts and seven substitute appearances for the Blues, following his switch from League One neighbours Colchester United back in January. He had a long contract but fair play to Marcus (owner Marcus Evans) for extending this and rewarding him for what he has achieved here.
“He’s somebody who has come in and stepped up a gear”.
‘I had the conversation with him “I know you can play, but if you don’t run around and don’t put a shift in you won’t play” but he’s a workaholic’. What’s nice for him is we’ve got Josh Emmanuel, Myles Kenlock, Adam McDonnell and Teddy Bishop, they’re his age and peers.
“Well we knew about Freddie because he was down the road at Colchester, we offered him another step up the ladder and it suited him geographically”.
AFC Sudbury are hoping Burnley’s players are the first of many Championship players to grace their pitch this season, after writing to all the clubs set to face Ipswich in the league.
