I did not send or receive classified emails on private account: Clinton
Democrats have said the GOP is using a House select committee on the terrorist attack to undermine Clinton’s presidential campaign.
Even as her nomination for U.S. Attorney General was held up in the U.S. Senate earlier this year, there was little dispute over the ability and character of Loretta Lynch.
Investigators this week asked the Justice Department to look into a “potential compromise of classified information” surrounding the private email server, a department official said on Friday.
Meanwhile, the State Department is scrutinizing over 55,000 pages of emails Clinton had previously turned over from her private account.
“The Journal notes that “…the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community concluded that Mrs. Clinton’s email contains material from the intelligence community that should have been considered “secret” at the time it was sent, the second-highest level of classification”. Roughly 25 of the emails were retroactively deemed to be classified.
“Hillary Clinton can’t help but continue to mislead the American people“, RNC spokesman Michael Short said in the statement. Reporters raised the issue during a news conference that followed the event.
Shortly after publication, the paper walked back the allegation that Clinton herself would be the target of the supposed criminal probe. “I can tell you what the facts are”. Unfortunately, I don’t think she ever did communicate with him. The inspector general for the State Department, Steve Linick, was appointed by President Obama in 2013.
According to CNN, up to 35 Central Intelligence Agency operatives were working in Benghazi during the attack on September 11, 2012, but it has never reported how many of them died or were injured.
The letter said a sampling of 40 of about 30,000 emails sent or received by Clinton found at least four that contained information the government had classified. “Once there is an agreement on the date and a better understanding of how, if at all, Secretary Clinton’s lawyer’s latest writing differs from previous ones, the Committee will announce said hearing date”. Gowdy, however, rejected that offer and asked the secretary to appear twice – once on her exclusive use of a private email server while at State and another in regard to the Benghazi attack.
“The facts are pretty clear”, she said, reiterating her campaign’s message on Friday as news of the referral unfolded.
Because it was not identified, it is unclear whether Clinton realized she was potentially compromising classified information. That won’t stop some from wielding this possible investigation in an attempt to dent Clinton’s presidential hopes.
“Secretary Clinton’s campaign may want to reach out to her lawyer, Mr. David Kendall, with whom the Committee has had ongoing conversations”, Ware said in a statement. They, too, spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to discuss the Clinton email situation publicly.
Clinton cites security and convenience. Clinton says businesses need to “break free from the tyranny of today’s earnings report” so they can take a more long-term view of the economy. But, there are signs that the issue may have already affected views of their candidate.
“Maybe the heat is getting to everybody”, she said.
