In South Carolina, Sanders tries to court black voters
Now she is hearing the same about another Clinton challenger she backs: Sen. Bernie Sanders, I -Vt., speaks during a fundraiser reception Monday, August 17, 2015, in Chicago.
In 1968, a liberal senator named Eugene McCarthy shocked political observers by leading a coalition of liberal and anti Vietnam War voters and nearly winning the New Hampshire primary against the overwhelming favorite for the Democratic nomination, President Lyndon B. Johnson.

She confirmed Friday that he will meet privately with black elected officials, ministers and other community leaders while in South Carolina.
The past week was full of reminders of her advantage here. Though Mr Sanders has served in Washington since 1991, he sees himself as an outsider: a self-described democratic socialist from an ornery mountain state, who sits in Congress as an independent.
