India says captures Pakistani militant in Kashmir after attack
Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
The ISPR added that Pakistani troops responded to the shelling in a “befitting” manner.
A suspected Pakistani militant was caught alive after an attack in India-administered Kashmir on Wednesday in which two troopers were killed, officials said.
One militant was killed and the other fled to a nearby village where he took three people hostage.
“India has always given evidence to Pakistan to take action against the perpetrators of terror but the Pakistan establishment doesn’t want the legal system to function to ensure that such people are brought to the book”, said BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli. India said the gunmen had come from Pakistan, according to an analysis of a Global Positioning System tracking device they carried.
In the latest violence, militants hid in maize fields and sprayed bullets at a Border Security Force convoy near Udhampur, a garrison town on the main highway connecting the disputed territory with the rest of India, said senior police officer Danish Rana.
AS Dulat, former head of India’s external spy agency, said: “Taking a man alive is a significant breakthrough”.
Delhi also suspects Pakistan-based militants of carrying out an attack in Punjab last week that claimed seven lives.
The Hurriyat also demanded the immediate release of all political prisoners lodged in Kashmir and outside jails. The gunman was later executed.
