Jeb Bush Criticised For “Stuff Happens” Reaction To Oregon Shooting

He said “I’m not sure we need half a billion dollars in funding for women’s health programs” when asked about defunding Planned Parenthood.

How sad that Bush, himself a Catholic, made his comments during the same week that Pope Francis was encouraging Americans to live up to their ideals and help the less fortunate.

“All sorts of rules that are appropriate for Florida may not be appropriate for other places but the basic right is embedded and it’s a personal right to bear arms, but that shouldn’t be infringed”, Bush said.

In follow up comments, Bush said that he was not referring to the shooting in Oregon when he said, “Stuff happens.”

“No, it wasn’t a mistake”. Why would you explain to me what I said wrong?

Bush later tweeted that Democrats had taken him out of context.

The president has failed to convince the Republican-dominated Congress from passing laws to reform gun laws in the face of lobbying from the National Rifle Association.

“Make no mistake: I will not sit idly by when stuff happens if there’s stuff we can do about that stuff”, Bush told supporters in Iowa.

The remark was similar to one Donald Trump said earlier that if he became president, he doesn’t expect to halt all mass shootings because there will always be people that society can’t stop. He was the governor of Florida who signed the “Stand Your Ground” legislation in 2005.

Bush’s Republican rivals echoed his bottom line. Whether you consider the loss of people’s lives “things” or merely “stuff”, well, Bush can confirm that it certainly happens.

Bush was reacting to the Umpqua Community College incident, which has left nine people dead and wounded seven others.

Bush, a Catholic, said small businesses such as bakers or florists should not be compelled to sell goods or services for a gay wedding, though they should be barred from discriminating against gay customers outside of the wedding context.
