Kane’s goal drought with England stretches to six games

Just 93 days after the Three Lions lost to Zlatko Dalic’s men in the World Cup semi-finals, the countries met in surroundings that could scarcely have been more different to July’s huge encounter at the packed Luzhniki.

Sancho may get another chance to impress his teammates when England face Spain in the Nations League in Seville on Monday.

“We come from some negative facts”, the 32-year-old, who will earn his 160 cap against England, only behind former goalkeeper Iker Casillas with 167 caps, said. I feel that we have missed him, both with Liverpool and with England.

Chants of “God Save the Queen” from a handful of English supporters who had gathered outside the ground seemed to lift the visitors but the woodwork and some awful finishing by striker Marcus Rashford denied them a goal. I’m looking forward to seeing him in this game.

“In terms of his work ethic and the stats he is producing, it’s as if he is 25”.

“I really like the way he interprets football”. It hurts both teams, both sets of supporters and does absolutely nothing for the sport as a product. But a lot of players have injuries.

“I was pleased the players did that and was particularly pleased with Ben Chilwell, who had a super debut: very composed defending against top quality players, good interceptions and use of the ball, getting forward well”.

“With the young players we have coming through and their positions, having wingers would suit us as well”.

Henderson started all-but two of England’s games at the World Cup, missing only the matches against Belgium – Dier’s only two starts.

“Now I see him in training, it’s like he has never been away”, the Reds midfielder said.

“You want to be winning those games, and that’s the next thing for us to do”. One chant – “F– off UEFA, we’ll do what we want!” – gave a clear indication of their persistence and refusal to miss a game, whether they are in the ground or not.

‘To play and to win against England is big news around the world and footballers are always grateful for that, ‘ he told The Mirror. When you are up there, you just have to battle, hold it up, bring others into play.

“We needed to get tight to Croatia’s midfield, Spain are similar in that sense”.

“We know the level of difficulty will be very high”. So it’s a good challenge for us to show that we can beat those teams.
