Local officials attending Pope Francis visit to White House
His corrective about his ideology is a significant prelude to his arrival in the USA , as the Democratic Party has increasingly attempted to claim Francis as their policy champion over the past few months.
An Alitalia plane carrying the Argentine-born leader of the world’s 1.2 billion member Roman Catholic church touched down on a gray, blustery afternoon at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland after a flight from Cuba.
The pope spoke in the foothills of the Sierra Maestra mountains where Castro and his brother Fidel commanded a guerrilla army that seized power in 1959.
The pope’s visit is one of the biggest security operations in the history of the United States.
During the pope’s time here in the USA he will meet with the President, address Congress, speak at the United Nations in New York and take part in a Vatican conference on families in Philadelphia.
The Fort Worth-based airline is providing the charter jet – a Boeing 777-200 – that will shuttle the pope between three US cities before returning him to Rome, Italy. The trip really begins Wednesday with a welcome ceremony at the White House, followed by midday prayer with US bishops and then Junipero Serra’s Canonization Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

Asheville Catholic School is taking the visit as an opportunity to teach the students lessons and St. Eugene’s Catholic church is putting those lessons into practice. “He serves as a source of inspiration not just for Catholics but of people of frankly all religions around the world“.
“And you know, the president actually worked quite closely with other Catholics in that community, and the president has talked about that quite a bit … this has been a value that has animated the president’s career choices since he was a young man”. They say looking for solutions facing modern families is the focus of the event, problems that include marriage, divorce, parenting, finances and more.
The first pope from Latin America has publicly supported issues including preventing climate change, income inequality and ending the USA embargo with Cuba, a goal of the Obama administration.
“I’ve never said anything that is not in the social doctrine of the church”, the Pope told reporters.
“I think the pope appeals surely to the richness of resources… that are here to be put to the common good of humankind”, said Lombardi.
