WEDNESDAY BROUGHT another sensational allegation in the Brett M. Kavanaugh confirmation saga, on the eve of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Thursday in which Mr. Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, the first woman to accuse him of sexual assault, are due to testify.
Graham is also echoing Republican talking points that characterize Democrats as engaging in a smear campaign to keep Kavanaugh off the Supreme Court, which in turn suggest Kavanaugh’s accusers are not credible. “And they go into a room, and I guarantee you, they laugh like hell at what they pulled off on you and on the public, they laugh like hell”.
All told three women have now come forward accusing Kavanaugh, 53, of assault or sexual misconduct when he was in high school in suburban Maryland or a student at Yale University.
“It’s a big, fat con job”, he said. She said she feared the personal consequences would be akin to “jumping in front of a train”.
“I’ve cleared the calendar and I’m going to watch every word of the hearing”, said Republican Sen. “It will be interesting to hear what she has to say”. He said the Senate minority leader “and his buddies are in there laughing” at the Kavanaugh mess. “I’ve been a famous person for a long time but I’ve had a lot of false charges made against me, really false”, Trump said.
Trump said that the Kavanaugh situation was “a very, very unsafe standard for our country”, as “you are guilty until proven innocent”. Ford said Mark Judge, a friend of Kavanaugh’s, witnessed the incident, which Ford said happened when she was 15.
According to an anonymous complaint in a letter sent to Republican Senator Cory Gardner, Kavanaugh physically assaulted a woman he socialized with in the Washington area in 1998 while he was inebriated, NBC News said, citing the letter and multiple people familiar with the process. She began by expressing sympathy for Ford, who’d said she was “terrified” to testify, saying, “I just wanted to let you know, I’m very sorry”. If Mr. Kavanaugh is being truthful when he flatly denies all accusations, an Federal Bureau of Investigation probe might turn up accounts that corroborate his story. Those who say that do not know me. Sometimes I had too many.
One of the men was interviewed twice by committee staff. What girls besides the one she names in her opening statement?
Her husband since 2002, Russell Ford, has signed one of four sworn declarations supporting her allegation. She said that both men were “stumbling drunk”, at the time, and that Judge held her down and “fumbled with her clothes”, prior to Kavanaugh raping her.
And in these moments, while Graham has made cooperation with Democrats as part of his brand, he never hesitates to take a partisan position when Democrats are trying to thwart his party’s agenda.
She wrote that she was incapacitated, perhaps drugged with Quaaludes, and was “unable to fight off the boys raping me”. But I have never done that to her or to anyone.
Ford has said Kavanaugh trapped her on a bed and tried undressing her, grinding his body against her and muffling her cries with her hand.
Ford admits to not remembering all the details but wants to share the ones she does remember.
Kavanaugh later released a statement denying these new allegations.
Reuters was not immediately able to verify her accusations. Judge has said does not recall the incident.
Avenatti responded on Twitter, calling Trump “a habitual liar and complete narcissist”.
