Microsoft Announces Chatpad for Xbox One
The Windows 10 experience will be coming to the Xbox One, and may be having a Preview release at around September of this year.
The DVR features, set to roll out next year, will let Xbox One users record live over-the-air TV, schedule recordings and side-load shows to mobile devices for on-the-go viewing, Microsoft announced Tuesday at Gamescon 2015.
At Gamescom, Microsoft announced that a DVR feature would be added to the Xbox One in the near future. Importantly, Microsoft also said users will be able to download TV shows to their Windows 10 phone, PC or tablet “so you can watch them on an airplane, on a bus – really anywhere – even without an internet connection”. This new external drive works as add-on storage for both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 gaming consoles all the while sporting the same color green and black scheme.
The company is a severe competition with Sony’s PS4 console for dominance in the video game world.
Microsoft also hope that this will unlock new value for Xbox fans, presumably giving players a little nudge to make the Xbox One their platform of choice for select multiplatform titles. The new console launches on october 20th and is available for Pre- Order. Obviously, gameplay will revolve around Halo 5: Guardians’ multiplayer and there will be all kinds of under card tournaments going into the main event. The DVR won’t be able to record television programming unless users also hook up an external hard drive.
The Xbox One OS, confirmed by The Verge, also includes a host OS, which is a heavily modified Hyper-V hypervisor and two partitions. Bundled with a heftly 1TB HDD and a downloadable copy of the game itself, the new console features a unique laser-etched design with metallic blue detailing echoing the gaming’s artistic framework.
Microsoft had initially positioned the Xbox One as a broader media device, and this fits right into that original pitch.
