Microsoft Brings ‘Likes’ And ‘Mentions’ To Outlook On The Web
A few will wonder why functionality is already available in Office 365 that Microsoft can not or will not ship when new products become available.
Microsoft’s homebrewn mailing and calendar service, Exchange Server, is being refreshed and is now out of preview, along with the 2016 revamp for other Office products. We will provide updates in the expected availability of the Like feature at a later date. The Office 2016 apps run beautifully on the best Windows ever, including the new Sway for Windows 10 to create shareable, interactive stories that look great on any screen. You can still do that in Office 2016, but if the document in question was one you worked on recently, it will now show up in a list of shareable documents right there in Outlook.
The Office 2016apps simplify collaboration and remove barriers to team success.
In addition, our Outlook.com users who have been migrated to the new version of the service will start seeing Mentions in the December time frame as well. Likes and mentions won’t be restricted to the web service of Outlook, though. You certainly could organize it in a list, with tasks assigned to each member. Significant new updates to OneDrive for Business are coming later this month, consisting ofa new sync client for Windows and Mac, which will deliver selective sync and enhanced reliability.
In the latest update to the company’s long running software package, businesses will be able to benefit from a raft of new features, including a new model of delivery where users are able to take advantage of new features and improvements. The Outlook 2016 provides the smartest inbox yet, with lightning-fast searchand automatic removal of low-priority mail. The function will expand to Office 365 commercial customers starting late October.
“Using the Mentions feature ensures that the person is not only aware of the request but is also included in the thread”, the Outlook team said in a blog post. But Microsoft, which has seen long-time customers turn to Google, Apple and others for word processing, spreadsheets and other competing apps, says Office 2016 will improve on older versions. A venerable workplace productivity tool like Outlook, though, is another matter.
Finally, Like and Mention features will be available to all Office Business, Enterprise, EDU, and Government plans.
The final public version of Microsoft’s Exchange Server 2016, built in the cloud, is now available to on-premises customers. If you purchase the Office Home & Student 2016 box, you pay a one-time fee of $149.99 for just the basic Office apps.
“The way people work has changed dramatically, and that’s why Microsoft is focused on reinventing productivity and business processes for the mobile-first, cloud-first world”, Satya Nadella, chief executive officer (CEO) of Microsoft, said in a statement.
