Microsoft releases Sway for free
At its Build developer conference earlier this year, Microsoft announced that it would soon release tools that would make it easier for iOS and Android developers to take their existing code and port their apps to Windows.
The software includes an Objective-C compiler and runtime, support for many iOS APIs, and integration with Visual Studio 2015. If you’d like to contribute to the project, we invite you to submit your code to the SDK on GitHub. After releasing Windows 10 as a “free upgrade” for “over 190 markets” this past week, Microsoft is aiming for iOS developers with software previously known as Project Islandwood. The tool is still very incomplete, but Microsoft is enlisting the help of developers to improve it fast, releasing it under an open source licence so anybody can tweak its code and improve it to suit their own needs.
Windows 10 has a whopper of a problem: Its app store is awful. It’s this other function that seems the most useful.
The Universal Windows Platform (UWP) is a single app platform that is available across all Windows device families, enabling you to reach a new user base and open up new revenue opportunities. The apps will also be able to benefit from the software company’s initiative, as they will be made available to the Windows port a lot more easily.
