That’s a far cry from the company’s goal of getting Windows 10 onto a billion devices within three years.
Microsoft is off to a great start with Windows 10, and if it can keep up the pace regarding installs, they’re onto a big victor.
Its imitation of Apple’s “personal assistant” Siri, which Microsoft calls Cortana, invites you to invoke its presence by saying, “Hey Cortana” out loud. With these numbers, I’m pretty excited about what the future holds for Microsoft and the Windows 10 platform, and very interested to see developers jump onboard with the Universal App Platform.
Microsoft released the Windows 10 yesterday to generally positive reviews. Unless you also use a Microsoft Xbox, which does benefit from some timely integration, your computer will gain little in useful functionality. It is predicated on the idea that the familiarity of Windows will make unfamiliar new devices more friendly – but we’re all used now to operating our Android and iPhones and tablets, and the changes wrought on Windows 8.1 means it’s no longer familiar anyway.
Organizations who do not need the Enterprise version of Windows 10, but looking to take advantage of Microsoft’s free upgrade offer can also can download the appropriate disk images of Windows 10 from here. The latter will require a valid Windows 7 or Windows 8 product key, as well as some additional legwork to create a bootable USB flash drive using the media creation tool provided by Microsoft. Now, it should show you a message that says “Reserve your free upgrade”.
