Mozilla Firefox 40.0.1 Exclusively Released for Windows Users
KB3081436 not only includes the six security bulletins release this month for Windows 10, but it also provides OS fixes, improvements, and at least one new feature, the Windows Spotlight for the Lockscreen (though its only available for Windows Home editions).
The KB3081424 update, released on Wednesday, collects a series of smaller updates into one bigger patch designed to make the updating process for new users simpler and easier. The new slug underscores the apparent fact that, despite painful setback, Microsoft is still pressing forward with its Windows 10 effort for smartphones – regardless of what we’ve seen, most things seem to be the same.
Windows 10 automatically goes back to a previous version whenever this happens. Now that the public rollout has come and gone, Windows 10 Mobile has moved to the top of Microsoft’s to-do list. Microsoft has promised to issue a fix for this problem within the next few days.
Windows 10 isn’t as private as some users may have hoped, as it’s been discovered that the operating system still communicates with Microsoft even when told to do otherwise.
The machines used for the test were using a local login to Windows 10, not a Microsoft account, and had OneDrive, Cortana, live tiles and every other privacy-protecting setting active. After I eventually do get the bits downloaded, we’ll be showing any major new features that you can expect.
It’s been over a month since the last Windows 10 Mobile Preview build was released to Insider members. If you have a secondary email for two-factor authentication – you can choose that.
Microsoft is also cautioning users that some phones will take awhile to complete the migration to the Build. Certain apps, including Groove, Podcast, and Pandora will crash when launching after receiving an app update from the Store.
Some of these issues are quite significant – for example, the Movies & TV app doesn’t work at all in this build due to video playback faults. Rebooting the device will resolve this issue.
Windows 10 IoT Core is geared specifically toward developers writing apps for small devices – some of which will, while others won’t, have screens.
